Apple has unveiled one of its most unconventional accessories to date the iPhone Pocket, a Japan-crafted fabric sleeve created in collaboration with iconic fashion house Issey Miyake. Designed using advanced 3D-knitting technology, this sleek and sculptural pocket sits at the intersection of wearable design, textile innovation and modern minimalism.
More than a simple case, the iPhone Pocket embodies Miyake’s long-standing philosophy of transforming a single piece of cloth into functional art. Its ribbed, stretchable structure gently reveals the items inside while offering a soft, flexible form that adapts to daily use. Apple describes it as a “piece of cloth,” a statement that has sparked lively debates about luxury design and pricing especially with the long-strap version priced at $229.95 and the short-strap at $149.95.
Created through meticulous 3D knitting in Japan, the pocket draws inspiration from Miyake’s signature pleats, giving the accessory a textured, architectural feel. It can be worn crossbody, tied to a bag, or handheld, shifting the purpose from mere protection to a fashion-forward experiment in how people carry tech. The color palette, featuring shades like lemon, peacock, sapphire, purple, and mandarin, elevates its playful appeal while maintaining understated elegance.
Yoshiyuki Miyamae, Design Director at Issey Miyake, describes the project as an exploration of “the joy of wearing iPhone your own way,” a sentiment deeply rooted in human-centered design. Behind the scenes, Apple’s industrial design team collaborated closely with Miyake researchers to craft the right balance of stretch, structure, and tactility.
Launching globally on November 14 in select Apple Stores including iconic locations in Tokyo, London, New York, and Paris the iPhone Pocket is positioned as a limited-edition collectible. For some, it is a bold blend of art and utility; for others, a luxury interpretation of a simple cloth. Either way, it signals a fresh moment where wearable textiles and technology cross paths in an unexpectedly stylish form.
